When I look at a panel, I'm thinking about the next twenty-five years of your home, not the next twenty-five minutes of my time. So I look at how the home is wired, what's actually drawing power, what's likely to be added, and I size the panel and the conductors for what's coming, not just what's there.
A lot of the panels I open in the White Mountains have terminations that have never been retorqued since the home was built. Some need a quarter turn, most of the aluminum ones need almost two full turns. Loose terminations create heat, heat creates failure, and failure in a panel is one of the worst places it can happen. A tune-up alone has saved homes from far worse.
