A hot tub under the pines in February is one of the best arguments for living up here. It's also a 240-volt appliance full of water and people, which makes its wiring the least negotiable electrical work on the property. Rizen Electric wires hot tubs and spas throughout the White Mountains to code, without shortcuts.
There is no electrical work where the stakes are plainer: a tub of water, the people you love in it, and a 240-volt circuit a few feet away. Done right, a spa circuit is boring for the next thirty years. Done casually, it's the most dangerous wiring on the property.
Done right looks like this. The load calculation comes first, because a 50-amp spa circuit is a major addition and panels up here, especially in older cabins, don't always have the headroom. The circuit is dedicated, sized to the manufacturer's spec sheet rather than to whatever wire was on the truck, run at proper depth in conduit, and protected by Water Shock Protection (GFCI) that we test before anyone soaks. The disconnect goes within sight of the spa, because the person servicing a live tub deserves to control its power from where they stand. The spa and the metal around it get bonded, so everything a wet hand might touch sits at the same potential. And the permit and inspection get handled, because this is exactly the work inspections exist for.
We also see the other kind: spas inherited with a home, wired by someone whose enthusiasm outran the code book. Missing disconnects, breakers oversized to stop the tripping, GFCI nowhere in the story. If that might be your backyard, an honest inspection is cheap insurance, and we'll tell you straight whether it's right or needs repair.
Winter soaking is the whole point up here, so we build the circuit for the spa working hard through January. Free consultation first, Lifetime Craftsmanship Guarantee always.
The spa dealer sells the tub; the wiring is a separate, serious project. Most spas want a 50-amp dedicated circuit, some want 60, and your panel may or may not have that headroom. We do the load calculation first, so the answer comes before the trench.
The disconnect within sight of the spa and the GFCI protection aren't suggestions. They're the code's answer to water and electricity sharing a deck, and they're exactly the items casual installs skip.
Mountain spas work harder. Heating water through a White Mountains winter is a real load running real hours, which makes connection quality and conductor sizing matter more, not less.
